An exciting new piece of our commitment to sustainability

Hana Designs has always believed that personal beauty and a beautiful planet can go hand in hand.

As an Aveda concept salon, we strive to focus on sustainability and safety while providing the best possible services for our clients. And now we’re taking the next step by partnering with Green Circle Salons to reduce our salon waste.

Did you know that the beauty industry produces 877 lbs. of waste a minute? And much of this waste contains plastics or harsh chemicals.

The Green Circle Salons program allows us to offset out emissions and recover up to 95% of our waste. This includes items that can be difficult to recycle like hair clippings, foils, hair color, and color tubes.

Here’s how it works: we separate our waste into a set of bins provided to us and then return it to Green Circle. Then they recycle or repurpose those materials.

Hair clippings can be used to clean up oil spills or to make the bins that Green Circle sends us for sorting waste. Hair color can be used to generate clean energy or separated into oil and water and then returned to the water supply or used for fuel. Items like foils can be recycled into new metal items. It goes on and on!

Hana is passionate about protecting our planet and has been actively working to run a sustainable business for decades. Long before recycling was the norm, she was driving her recyclable items for miles to keep them out of landfills! So it’s always been important to her that Hana Designs have a positive impact. It’s why we believe in Aveda products, and it’s why we’re now partnered with Green Circle.

But as I lost my hair during chemotherapy for breast cancer those words stung me deeply every time I heard them. Because for many of us, our hair is more than vanity – it’s a vital part of our identity. It’s a signifier of health and well-being. It can be a form of armor.
